when jehovah's witnesses began distributing door to door the new world translation beginning in the early 1950's a firestorm of protest broke out in mainstream churches.

the alarm cry was "they've changed the bible to fit their own crooked teachings!".

you can imagine the discord as church members tried to figure out how jehovah's witnesses could prove by reading from the nwt the king james version was full of omissions and errors and outright fraud concerning, for instance, the trinity doctrine or the name of god!!.

This information ties into what is said in the book "Armageddon Now" by Dwight Wilson. Western policy towards the middle east has and is greatly influenced by religion. The Jews are fullfilling prophecy, so policy should be made according to what God has foretold.

What occurs to me as somewhat humorous is this. Many christians view the literal jews as the people upon whom prophecy is and will be fullfilled. The governing body views themselves as the fullfillment of these prophecies. The Governing Body are the jews upon who bible prophecies find fullfillment. In the big picture this isolates the Governing Body even more from christians. The part that is humorous is the details of interpretations by which the Governing Body has come to this conclution. As in the imprisonment of Rutherford and 7 others from 1918 to 1919. The 7 conventions etc..

"I no longer want to be 'Bloodguilty'"

i have been thinking of a simple one liner to use when challenged as to why i dont seem to be an "active / good" witness.... "i no longer wish to be considered as 'bloodguilty' thanks" and leave it at that.. if said in a dignified, (not in a smart arse way), then i think this may make people see that my desicion is a sound one based on logic and not emotion..... thoughts?.

If you want to DA or be invited to a JC, Simply say,"I used to believe that, but now I do not." This is good for your own peace of mind. It all depends on your loved ones, what you want to accomplish, etc.. Even if you just say it to yourself. Try it. See how it makes you feel. I find it very peaceful.

Many Witnesses are not in a position to show love because it becomes about them. How will they be affected by talking to us? Will the elders begin to question their loyalty? Is their everlasting life going to be taken away as a result of contact? The foundation for this thinking is: The religion is true, so the person not "whole souled" is defective. The questions are not to help, but to evaluate potential danger.

The point is you better know your audience when saying anything to them.

Witnesses can become very insecure when their comfortable world is questioned. I am afraid your comment "I no longer wish to be considered bloodquilty thanks," will be perceived as a comment about them. Their possible response: "so you think the work of Jehovah's Witnesses causes bloodquilt?" Now you have the baloney hitting the fan. That is not what you want is it?

im in a bit of a bind and im not quite sure what (if anything) i can do about it.

i was recently hired as a business consultant for a rather large company.

the company that hired me mentioned that they are concerned about a certain department and the way its being run, as this department affects every other department in the company.

The abuse case I was involved in was dismissed at summary judgement. "Internal church policies and first amendment rights" was the reason. This fact alone makes what you are saying worthy of consideration. American law was originally put in place to protect freedom of worship. It is hard to get it in our heads that something as wrong as coercion is allowed by law. On top of that we all know that the information about shunning on the "official website" is misleading.

Who said life is fair. It is not.

However, when you loose according to the rules, all you have to do is win by following the rules. Speaking out to make people aware of the dangers of the Watchtower is also protected under first amendment rights. Like smoking. People choose to smoke to their own harm. If those who are about to start smoking are educated and then decide not to smoke, that is great. Those who did the educating feel better because they did what was in their power to do.

No matter what happens in Finland the exposure will be educational to the public.

We just have to do what we can do.

Vidiot is correct to point out the "coercing" that occurs to those who no longer can support the "error" of the teachings of the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses.

One only has to read and or watch (you tube) to become familiar with this. Add the testimony in the Douglas Walsh trial about supporting error and you can see what Vidiot said is right on the money.

Also, I can tell you personally, that at this moment I know several who are going to meetings only because they have been threatened with loosing their families. Only because they want to save their wife and children. To see people I care for go thru this is my greatest source of anxiety. I can only describe the feeling, as like having a dream where you watch someone drown and you can not do anything about it. Problem is the coercion is real and happening as we speak.

If one wants to go further into research about coercion inside the "organization", read about Manuela Dormain's experience. She was the mother of an abused boy. For years her son had a behavior problem. Only by reading her son's letter to his girl friend did she find out he had a bad thing happen to him when he was young. Manuela was compelled to warn a father about the possibility that his son was also abused. The father turned out to be an elder who knew abuot Compos being an abuser. Not only was Manuela disapointed that this elder did not warn her, but the elder coerced her to not go forward with making known Compos abuse of her son.

What did Manuela do? She and her family did not allow themselves to be coerced. Watchtower settled out of court with a gag order. How much? I do not know. It is not the money. It is that someone faced the threat and came out the better for it.

Watchtower has first amendment rights. Watchtower has a substantial legal team. Watchtower has financial assets.

What Watchtower also has is a record of wrongdoing that the public needs to know about. Education of the public is perhaps the only action that means anything.

If and when something else comes up then: "here I am send me" LOL
